WR #12

I bought Marla Baggetta’s course to work on drawing techniques. I haven’t started it yet, but hopefully that’ll change by my next weekly review. Nick and I had a quick trip to Nashville right after getting back from our Easter travels. I’m really struggling to get in a groove. We’ve also got moving hanging over our heads. I’m afraid “I’m struggling to get in a groove” is going to be a common theme for my weekly reviews the rest of this year.

I’m trying really hard to stay focused on God and remember that I just have to turn to Him for my daily bread… I don’t have to know 5 steps in advance. I just have to trust Him and follow the next right step He gives me. Easier said than done though… I'm a planner!! I know this season is good for me. I pray that God will use it to refine me to look more like Jesus.

Last week’s focus

Traveling to Nashville. Buying Marla’s course… now I just have to start it!

Helpful inputs/ resources from the week

  • The song Up by Connor Price and Forrest Frank is helping pep me up. I like these lyrics in particular:

    Up like my name Lazarus
Know Satan gon' be mad at this
I had to ask my dad
If it's okay to swing my bat at this
He said, "Boy, if I pitch it, it's out of the park"
Moving so quick, it's like they stuck in park
They see the numbers but I see the heart
Ten thousand hours he spent in the dark
    Putting in good work
Even though he didn't even know that it would work
Talk about a man who grew up in woodwork
Do it for the love of it, that's the way it should work

  • I just have to remember: I’m doing art just for the love of it. I have no idea if it’ll ever turn into anything other than a fun hobby for me. I just want to put in good work, and allow God to use my efforts however best suits His purposes. Maybe that’s for me to do art in a home studio and invite people I love to explore their own creativity. Maybe it’ll be a YouTube channel someday. Maybe neither of those. I don’t know… but it’ll be interesting to see where things go. :) Just keep putting in the good work, Hanna!

SKETCHBOOK REVIEW

April 3, 2024

What question did I ask my sketchbook with this spread?

What can I capture with one color while Nick runs down to the lobby to get us coffee?

How do I feel about it overall?

I liked how the “batman building” (at&t building) turned out.

What am I curious about?

What if I tried this type of thing with paints?

What do I want to carry forward?

Taking the time to do art, even if I just have a few minutes. I’ve been really scaling my art back lately to fit my time constraints. I feel a lot of guilt about that, but it’s actually kind of awesome. I just have to remind myself that seasons for long, in-depth art sessions are coming!!

FINAL WRAP UP

What has God taught me this week about glorifying Him through my art?

Just focus on one step at a time… daily bread.

What am I excited about/ what’s my plan for next week? Any changes to initial 2024 planning?

Starting the Marla Baggetta class!
